Waters wins it in closing seconds

Tremont Waters drove and hit a shot off the glass with 1.6 seconds remaining Saturday to send Louisiana State to a 69-67 victory over Maryland Saturday in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Tigers (28-6) led 38-29 at halftime before holding on for the win. Louisiana State shot 24-of-65 from the floor, 7-of-24 from 3-point range plus 14-of-16 at the free throw line. Skylar Mays paced the Tigers with 16 points on 4-of-12 shooting including 4-of-8 from 3-point range plus 4-of-4 at the free throw line. He also notched five rebounds and two steals. Naz Reid accounted for 13 points, four boards and two assists. Waters tallied 12 points, five dimes, two caroms and two steals. Darius Days added 10 points and five rebounds.

Spartans ease past Golden Gophers

Michigan State rolled to a 70-50 victory Saturday night over Minnesota in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Spartans (30-6) led by a commanding 33-19 halftime advantage on their way to the win. Michigan State shot 28-of-49 from the field, 6-of-15 from 3-point distance plus 8-of-11 at the free throw line. Xavier Tillman led a balanced scoring attack with 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting plus 2-of-3 at the free throw line. He also pulled down six rebounds. College Basketball Betting Trends

LSU

The Tigers are 4-1 ATS in their last five games versus the Big Ten. LSU is 4-9-1 ATS in its last 14 non-conference games.

Michigan State

The Spartans are 24-9 ATS in their last 33 games overall. Michigan State is 1-4 ATS in its last five NCAA Tournament games.

Prediction:

Michigan State handled a Minnesota team it was familiar with handily last weekend and now gets a much tougher test in LSU. While the Spartans are top 10 nationally in both adjusted offensive and defensive efficiency, the Tigers can struggle on the defensive end and want to play at a fast pace. I can see that benefiting the Spartans as LSU can struggle with turnovers while also being one of the worst in the country at forcing turnovers. Look for Michigan State to overwhelm Louisiana State as the game progresses to cover this spread.
