Tar Heels win third straight
North Carolina posted a 93-83 home win Tuesday night over Wake Forest to improve to 13-17 overall and 6-13 in the ACC. The Tar Heels outscored the Demon Deacons 58-49 in the second half to pull away. Cole Anthony paced UNC with 28 points off the bench on 8-of-14 shooting including 4-of-5 from 3-point distance plus 8-of-8 at the free throw line. He also contributed seven assists and four rebounds. Garrison Brooks tallied 25 points and seven boards as a reserve. Brandon Robinson added 18 points, four caroms and three assists.
Blue Devils ease past Wolfpack
Duke cruised to an 88-69 victory Monday night at home over North Carolina State to move to 24-6 overall and 14-5 in conference action. The Blue Devils outscored the Wolfpack 50-33 in the second half to turn it into a rout. Cassius Stanley led Duke with 18 points on 7-of-18 shooting plus 4-of-5 at the charity stripe. He also recorded six rebounds and two blocked shots. Vernon Carey Jr. accounted for 17 points, seven boards and two blocks. Tre Jones tallied 15 points, four assists, four steals and three caroms. Jonathan Goldwire had 11 points, six rebounds, five dimes and two steals off the bench. Wendell Moore Jr. and Justin Robinson both accumulated 10 points and six boards as reserves.
