The Aggies are 17-2 on the season, and on Monday, they jumped up to No. 5 in the latest AP Top 25 rankings thanks to wins over LSU and Missouri while so many other teams lost. Texas A&M has never finished a season in the top 5 of the AP rankings, which has a lot of fans of the team excited about what could happen this year.
According to oddsmakers at RealBets, Texas A&M is still not getting much consideration for a championship, as the Aggies are listed at 40/1 to win the NCAA Tournament. North Carolina is the current favorite at 13/2 while Kansas and Oklahoma sit at 8/1.
The Aggies are in their fourth season under Billy Kennedy as head coach. He has led the team to a winning record in each of his first three seasons, including a 21-12 record last season that saw the team earn an NIT bid. A&M’s two losses this season came against Syracuse and Texas A&M, but the team already holds wins over Texas, Gonzaga, Baylor, Florida and LSU. The Aggies have a big game coming up this Saturday against Iowa State at home that could continue to solidify their spot in the title picture. They currently lead the SEC with a 7-0 record in conference play. A&M had its last NCAA Tournament appearance in 2011 and the team hasn’t made it past the Sweet 16.
