AAC Championship Game Prediction

Will SMU cover as a sizable favorite versus Central Florida in the American Athletic Conference semi-final today at 2:00PM ET?

According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Mustangs are now 8.5-point favorites versus the Knights after opening as a 9-point favorite. As for the total, the number hit the board at 127.5 and that’s where it currently sits.

In order to reach the championship game, the Knights had to get through Memphis, which they did easily on Friday in an 84-54 victory as a 2.5-point favorite. The win was Central Florida’s sixth in a row and the team has won seven of its last 10 games, covering in six of those contests.

SMU had a little more trouble against East Carolina than Central Florida had with Memphis. After jumping out to a large halftime lead, ECU stormed back before eventually falling, 81-77. The Mustangs came nowhere close to covering the 19-point spread as a favorite, but that was their 14th consecutive victory.

OUR PREDICTION: The Mustangs are 22-5-1 against the spread in their last 28 games as a favorite and have covered in 10 of their last 11 games versus a team with a winning percentage above .600. They’re also 20-6-1 at the betting window in their last 27 games overall, and have covered in 22 of their last 28 games coming off a win. Despite receiving a second-half scare from East Carolina on Friday, SMU should walk away with a double-digit victory today with a conference title on the line.
