LAS VEGAS, NV (TheSpread) – After missing out on their chance to play in a BCS bowl, the Boise State Broncos look to finish their season on a high note when they take on the Utah Utes in the 2010 MAACO Bowl Wednesday night. Continue reading for picks, odds and more on this 2010 bowl matchup.
According to current college football bowl odds and oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com, Boise State is a 16.5-point favorite over Utah on Wednesday night. The over/under total for this game is currently 57.5 points.
The Utes wrapped up the 2010 regular season with a 10-2 record and finished 7-4-1 against the spread according to latest college football trends. The over hit in seven of their 12 games this year as they racked up 35.6 points per contest.
The Broncos’ only blemish of the year came in a second-half collapse against Nevada. They finished 11-1 on the season and covered in eight of their 12 games in 2010. The under hit in six of their 12 games and the total pushed in one of the contests this season.
MAACO Las Vegas Bowl:
There’s no doubt this is a mismatch on paper. Utah will face a Boise State defense that ranks fourth in the nation in both scoring defense (13.6 points per game) and total defense (259.3) without its starting quarterback (Jordan Wynn) and left tackle (John Cullen). But it’s not as if Terrance Cain isn’t capable of pulling off an upset. He’s 9-1 as a starter and he completed 70.8 percent of his passes as a backup this season. He finished with six touchdown passes and was only intercepted twice in 72 attempts, so he can obviously play. Utah’s defense will have its hand full with Kellen Moore and the slew of playmakers that he has at his disposal, but the spread is too high for a bowl game. If you can buy the half point and bump the line up to 17, do it. But we think the Utes keep this one close throughout and cover. Our pick is Utah +16.5.
