Arkansas loses Williams
FAYETTEVILLE, AR (TheSpread) – The Arkansas Razorbacks took a big hit before the college football season began as running back Jonathan Williams injured his foot.
Williams injured his left foot during a team scrimmage on Saturday. While he is not expected to miss the entire season, Williams will need surgery to repair the injury. The timetable for his return wasn’t given, but it is reported by ESPN as “extended.”
“I have no doubt that Jonathan will come back stronger than ever,” Arkansas coach Bret Bielema said in a statement. “Anyone that knows Jonathan Williams knows this is just another opportunity for him to prove the man of character and substance that he really is. It’s an unfortunate injury to a great young man, but we are in the process of gathering as much information as possible. There are short and long term impacts of how he proceeds and we want to make sure he does what’s best for him and his family, and his career beyond Arkansas.”
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Arkansas is currently listed with +5000 odds to win the College Football Playoffs this season. Ohio State is the current favorite at +360, while Alabama and TCU each have +650 to win.

Williams was the team’s leading rusher in 2014, going for 1,190 yards with 12 touchdowns. He was one of two running backs to go over 1,000 yards in 2014 as Alex Collins had 1,100 yards and 12 scores. Williams’ injury will put Collins in the spotlight to be more of a featured back, but the Razorbacks feel they have depth at the position.
