Despite brining back five starters on offense, quarterback Taylor Martinez is back for the Huskers. He threw for 1,631 yards and 10 touchdowns while rushing for 965 yards and 12 touchdowns as a true freshman. The offense also has running back Rex Burkhead back. Burkhead rushed for 951 yards and seven scores. On defense, Nebraska has seven starters back from a group that allowed just 17 points and 300 yards per game. The defense will be led by tackle Jared Crick, who had 9.5 sacks and 70 tackles in 2010.
As a program, Nebraska owns five national titles and 43 conference championships. The last national title came in 1997 and was shared with Michigan. Pelini has brought Nebraska back to a national contender, as he has won at least 9 games in each of his three seasons. This season, Nebraska has a pretty manageable non-conference schedule with home games against Fresno State and Washington. The Big Ten schedules features road trips to Wisconsin, Penn State, and Michigan. The Huskers will host the likes of Ohio State, Michigan State, and Iowa.
With the spread, Nebraksa was 7-7 in 2010. The Cornhuskers were 4-2 against the spread on the road and 1-3 in games on grass. Nebraska has been .500 or better against the spread in the three seasons under Pelini. For the over/under, Nebraska also split. They hit the under in 5 of 8 home games.
