CFB Week 1 Picks: Kansas State Wildcats vs. Stanford Cardinal 9/2/16

Kansas State vs. Stanford Pick

Stanford opens up at home tonight against Kansas State at 9:00PM ET. Will the Cardinal cover as a double-digit favorite?

According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, Stanford opened as a 16-point home favorite tonight against Kansas State but the line has been bet down to Cardinal -14.5. As for the total, the original number posted by oddsmakers was 50, but that number has been bet down to 47.5.

Bet College Football Week 1 Games

The Wildcats failed to cover in seven of their 13 games in 2015, losing by an average margin of -1.5 per contest. (They also failed to cover by a -2.9 points-per-game margin as well.) The Wildcats were also 4-4 against the spread as an underdog last season and 1-2 as an away dog. That said, Kansas State was 3-2 against the spread as a road team, winning by an average margin of 5.4 points per game.

The Cardinal was one of the best bets in 2015, covering in 10 of its 14 games and winning by an average margin of 15.2 points per contest. As a home team, which is what they will be tonight, David Shaw’s squad was 5-2 at the betting window last season, winning by an average of 16.1 points per game. As a home favorite, the Cardinal was also 5-2 against the number.

OUR PICK: College football fans remember that Stanford was the victim of one of the bigger upsets of Week 1 a year ago when it fell at Northwestern, 16-6 as a 10-point road favorite. But that game was also played at 11:00PM CT in the midwest, so 9:00AM on the west coast where Stanford resides. While the Cardinal still had no business losing to a punchless Wildcats team regardless, don’t get hung up on that loss when deciding whether or not to roll with Stanford tonight. Kansas State was forced to rebuild its offensive line this season, which could lead to the Wildcats being less efficient than they were a year ago. It’s questionable whether or not they have enough talent to hang with Christian McCaffrey and Co. tonight, especially with Shaw no doubt preaching a faster start than a year ago.
