Clemson vs. Alabama National Championship Game Predictions 1/9/17

Clemson vs. Alabama Prediction

Will Alabama cover tonight against Clemson in the College Football Playoff National Championship or will the Tigers pull off the upset?

According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Crimson Tide are 6.5-point favorites over the Tigers for tonight’s 8:00PM ET kickoff at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, FL. As for the total, the number hit the board at 54 but has been bet all the way down to 51 at the majority of sports books both online and in Las Vegas.

Bet Tonight’s Clemson vs. Alabama Title Game

CLEMSON KEY TRENDS: The Tigers have covered in six straight bowl games and are 8-1 at the betting window in their last nine neutral site games as well. They’re also 5-2 against the spread in their last seven non-conference games and have covered in six of their last eight games after they accumulate more than 200 yards rushing in their previous contest. They’re just 2-5 ATS, however, in their last seven games against teams with a winning record.

ALABAMA KEY TRENDS: The Crimson Tide have covered in seven of their last nine games overall, are 4-1 at the betting window in their last five non-conference games and have covered in four of their last five games against ACC opponents as well. They’re also 14-4 against the spread in their last 18 games versus an opponent with a winning record and are 6-1 ATS in their last seven games after accumulating more than 200 yards rushing in their previous game.

OUR PREDICTION: Too much is being made about the events that transpired last week. While Clemson crushed Ohio State in convincing fashion, the narrative that emerged in the Alabama-Washington game is that the Crimson Tide is vulnerable because of their offense. Throw in the fact that Nick Saban parted ways with Lane Kiffin and there’s this notion that the Tide will struggle again offensively tonight. The real question is whether or not Clemson can move the ball against the best defense in college football this season. Furthermore, can the Tigers avoid turnovers? They haven’t all year, and if they turn the ball over tonight Alabama has a habit of turning gifts into immediate points. I would be shocked if Jalen Hurts put the ball in the air more than 20 times tonight. Saban is going to rely on his defense Bo Scarbrough to win, which means Clemson’s margin of error is miniscule. Laying nearly a touchdown on Alabama seems like a risky proposition, but I like ‘Bama to win by 10-plus.
