According to oddsmakers from online sports book Mybookie.ag, the Tigers are currently 1-point road favorites versus the Owls after Temple opened as a 2-point underdog. The total has dropped significantly, falling from 64 points down to 58.5.
The Records
After dropping back-to-back games to Navy and Houston the past two weeks, Memphis is now 8-2 straight up and 5-4 against the spread this season. Temple, meanwhile, was blown out by South Florida last Saturday and is also 8-2 straight up and 7-3 against the number.
The Pick
Some will question the Tigers’ motivation today after they eliminated themselves from AAC title contention with consecutive losses the past two weeks. But don’t make that mistake. Memphis should play loose with Temple having more on the line. The Owls can clinch the AAC East Division with a victory this weekend or next week against Connecticut, or if South Florida loses one of its final two games. Either way, Paxton Lynch leads a Tiger offense that ranks fifth in the nation in scoring, averaging 43.0 points per game. The defense has been an issue for Memphis in its past two games, but Temple is nowhere close to being the threat Houston is on that side of the ball. The Owls will have issues if this game turns into a shootout.
