College Football Picks California vs. Hawaii Australia Kickoff 8/26/16

Cal vs. Hawaii College Football Pick

California and Hawaii kick off the 2016 college football season from Sydney, Australia tonight. Will the Rainbow Warriors cover as huge underdogs?

According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Golden Bears are 19.5-point favorites versus the Rainbow Warriors after the number opened at Cal -22. As for the total, the number opened at 63 but has been bet up to 64 with bettors expecting this one to be a high-scoring affair throughout.

Bet Tonight’s Cal vs. Hawaii Game

Cal will kick off the post-Jared Goff era tonight under Sonny Dykes, who turns to 6-foot-5 Texas Tech graduate transfer Davis Webb at quarterback. Webb will have plenty of weapons around him, including talented freshmen Melquise Stovall and Demetris Robertson. Chad Hansen also returns to a stacked wide receiver core for new offensive coordinator Jake Spavital, plus Vic Enwere, Tre Watson and Khalfani Muhammad are back after combing for 1,585 yards (5.6 per carry) last year on the ground.

Hawaii will be led by fifth-year senior quarterback Ikaika Woosley, as well as a bevy of running backs in senior Steven Lakalaka, junior Diocemy Saint Juste, and senior Paul Harris. Harris became the team’s second back in the last 23 years to rush for 1,000 yards (1,132 to be exact) last season. The Rainbow Warriors also has a solid offensively.

OUR PICK: There’s no question that Cal is the more talented team coming off an 8-5 season (Hawaii, meanwhile, was 3-10). But the Bears have no continuity on offense and are replacing their top six receivers from last season. New offensive coordinator. New quarterback. New receivers. Cal will score plenty of points this season but it could take a few weeks before the offense finds some cohesion. This is a lot of points to lay on a team with a lot of newcomers on offense and that is playing in a different country to start the season, so I’d take the dog.
