College Football Picks: Total too low for Cal vs. Washington? 10/5/17

Cal vs. Washington Total Pick

The total is set low when No. 6 Washington hosts California on Saturday at 10:45PM ET. Can these two teams go over?

According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Washington is favored at home in this game, as the Huskies are getting odds of -27.5 points against Cal. The over/under total for the contest is listed at 56.5 points. Washington has won seven of its last eight meetings with Cal and the two have hit the under in seven of their last eight clashes. Saturday’s game takes place from Husky Stadium in Seattle, Washington. The contest airs live on ESPN.

Cal has lost its last two games to fall to 3-2 on the season and 0-2 in the Pac-12. The Golden Bears are 3-2 with the under, hitting the over in both road games. California has been average on offense, posting 27.8 points and 395.6 yards per game. Ross Bowers has thrown for 1,357 yards and nine touchdowns, but also has eight interceptions. Patrick Laird is the leading rusher with 388 yards and four scores. Defensively, Cal is allowing 28.2 points and 448.4 yards per game.

Washington is off to a 5-0 start following a 42-7 win at Oregon State last week. The Huskies are 2-0 in the Pac-12 and 3-2 with the under. The Huskies have had a dominant defense thus far, allowing just 10.8 points and 256 yards per game. Their pass defense is among the best in the country, allowing only 153.8 yards per game. On offense, Washington is putting up 44 points and 443.4 yards per game. Jake Browning has thrown for 1,251 yards and 12 touchdowns to lead the offense while Myles Gaskin has 468 rushing yards with six touchdowns. Dante Pettis has caught 27 passes for 368 yards and six scores while also returning three punts for scores.

Bet on California vs. Washington

Washington’s defense hasn’t necessarily faced the most explosive offenses as of yet, but the Huskies don’t have to worry about that in this game either. Cal is okay, but nothing special and certainly not an offense that Washington should have trouble with. The Cal defense isn’t terrible, but will likely have its struggles with the dynamic Washington offense. Still, the Bears can get some stops here and there to keep this game relatively low-scoring. I see this being similar to other Washington games, lopsided but low scoring.
