Bet on Maryland vs. Florida International
Maryland opened the D.J. Durkin era with a 52-13 win over Howard. The Terps were unable to cover the 50-point spread, but it was still a good showing. Maryland had a 519-269 edge in total yardage in the victory. The Terrapins tallied 315 rushing yards as a team, with six different players rushing for at least 40 yards. Quarterback Perry Hillis didn’t throw too much, going 14 of 19 for 126 yards in the win. Maryland also held Howard to just 69 rushing yards on 35 attempts.
Florida International started its 2016 season with a 34-13 loss to Indiana. The Panthers were just a 10-point underdog so they failed to cover and they are 0-4-1 against the spread in their last five games. FIU had 331 yards in the loss, but gave up 486 yards to the Hoosiers, including 246 rushing yards. FIU didn’t rush the ball very well, posting 63 yards on 21 carries. That was due in part to being so far behind. Alex McGough ended up with 263 passing yards and three interceptions for the Panthers.

FIU faces an Indiana offense that usually moves the ball pretty well, but typically struggles on defense. Today the Panthers take on Maryland, which isn’t likely to move the ball quite as well, but has a superior defense with new coach D.J. Durkin. Maryland can run the ball well on FIU and control tempo while its defense keeps the Panthers in check. With the spread just 10.5 points, look for Maryland to clear that with ease.
