College Football Week 2 Picks: Iowa State vs. Iowa 9/10/16

Iowa State vs. Iowa Pick

After putting up a big number in Week 1, will No. 16 Iowa find itself in a high-scoring game tonight when it hosts Iowa State at 7:30PM ET?

According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, Iowa is favored to win this game, as the Hawkeyes are getting odds of -15 points against the Cyclones. The over/under total for the contest is listed at 51 points. The road team has won and covered the spread in four straight between these two and they are 7-2-1 with the under in their last 10 meetings.

Bet on Iowa State vs. Iowa

Iowa kicked off the season with a 45-21 win over Miami (Ohio) last week in a performance that would have been its second-highest-scoring outing of the 2015 season. Iowa put up 404 yards of offense in the win, but more surprising was it gave up 424 yards to the RedHawks. Miami didn’t score more due to three turnovers. Not surprising was that Iowa was able to run the ball consistently, tallying 212 yards on the ground. Akrum Wadley and LeShun Daniels Jr. combined for 204 yards on 22 carries.

Iowa State was stunned in its opener, losing 25-20 at home to Northern Iowa despite being a 9.5-point favorite. Iowa State could only put up 307 yards of offense in the loss and committed four turnovers. They were held to 51 total rushing yards while giving up 232 on the ground to UNI. Joel Lanning threw for 256 yards and three touchdowns in the loss.

Iowa gave up more yards last week than I would have thought, but Iowa State struggled much more than I would have though. One clear thing is that Iowa should be able to control this game with their running. Iowa State probably can’t put up too many points on the Hawkeyes, but the Iowa State defense should rise to a little challenge given this is a rivalry game. Look for Iowa to win, but for the game to be under the 51 points.
