College Football Week 4 Predictions: Mississippi State vs. UMass 9/24/16

Miss State vs. UMass Prediction

Will Mississippi State win by enough points this afternoon against UMass to cover the large point spread at 3:30PM ET?

According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Bulldogs are 22.5-point road favorites today against the Minutemen, who opened as a 23.5-point underdog. As for the total, the number opened at 45 but has been bet up to 47.5.

Bet College Football Week 4 Games

Mississippi State has covered in seven of its last 10 games overall and in four of its last five road games, including last week at LSU as a 13.5-point dog. The Bulldogs are also 5-1 at the betting window in their last six games playing in the month of September and are 8-2 against the spread in their last 10 games following a loss.

The Minutemen, meanwhile, have been a bad bet at home, failing to cover the spread in five of their last six games at Gillette Stadium. They’re also 3-8 at the betting window in their last 11 games when playing a team with a losing record and are 1-4 against the number in their last five games after allowing less than 20 points in their previous game.

OUR PREDICTION: Quarterback Nick Fitzgerald was pulled in the loss to LSU last week but Dan Mullen says he hasn’t lost confidence in his starter. Whether it’s Fitzgerald or backup Damian Williams that sees the majority of the snaps in this one, Mississippi State should roll today. The Minutemen own one of the worst offenses in the nation, ranking 128th in yards per game (243.3), 100th in passing yards (188.0), 127th in rushing yards (46.3), and 128th in scoring (11.7). UMass will have a difficult time moving the ball against Mississippi State’s defense, which kept the team in the game last weekend in Baton Rouge despite the Bulldogs’ comeback attempt falling short.
