College Football Week 8: Arizona State vs. Utah Predictions 10/21/17

Arizona State vs. Utah Prediction

One week after shocking Washington, will Arizona State at least cover the spread versus Utah today at 3:30PM ET?

ODDSMAKERS LIKE: Utah. According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Utes are 9.5-point home favorites to beat the Sun Devils, who hit the board as a 10.5-point underdog. As for the total, the number currently sits at 56.5 after opening at 57 points at most online sportsbooks.

THE PUBLIC LIKES: Arizona State. As of this writing, public bettors are backing the Sun Devils and taking the points, although only by a slight margin. Only 54% of public bettors have Arizona State plus the points.

HISTORICAL TRENDS LIKE: Utah. The Sun Devils are 0-4 against the spread in their last four games against the Utes. They’re also just 4-12 against the number in their last 16 road games and have failed to cover in five of their last seven games after covering the spread in their previous game. On the other side, the Utes are 5-0-1 against the spread in their last six games, are 3-0-1 against the number in their last four conference games, and have covered in four of their last five games coming off a loss.

WHO WE LIKE: Utah. The Utes will still be without starting quarterback Tyler Huntley but Troy Williams has played well in his place and nearly led Utah to a win over USC last week. Arizona State is coming off the huge win against Washington but I don’t see the Sun Devils matching their defensive performance from a week ago. They’ve allowed their opponents to average 43 points per game on the road this season and own one of the worst defenses in the nation. (I don’t know how ASU held Washington to only 7 points last week but I’m betting that it was an anomaly.) Utah is the much better team – don’t be fooled by last week’s results.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL WEEK 8 PREDICTIONS: UTAH UTES -9.5
