Tigers try to remain hot against Rebels
The Ed Orgeron era’s off to a grand start in Baton Rouge. But will LSU be able to keep the momentum going against a desperate Ole Miss group?
Two fierce SEC rivals engage in their annual battle tomorrow in the Bayou. Online sports book BetDSI opened the Tigers as 4-point favorites to topple the Rebels. The over/under is 46.
An uninspired start to the season in the Pelican State cost Les Miles his job. With Orgeron at the helm, however, LSU appears to have rediscovered its swagger. After routing Missouri 42-7, the Tigers bulldozed Southern Mississippi by five touchdowns one week ago. Both of those triumphs also came sans Leonard Fournette, whose Heisman campaign keeps getting halted by a pesky ankle injury.
Fortunately for the home fans, the junior running back should be available vs. Ole Miss. Even if he’s merely rotating carries with Derrius Guice, that automatically adds yet another dimension to an ever-ascending offense. Orgeron’s troops have already amassed a preposterous number of total yards so far this month.

Meanwhile, Hue Freeze’s program comes off a 34-30 heartbreaker to Arkansas. Chad Kelly’s frequent heroics notwithstanding, the Rebels continue to let upper-tier opponents overwhelm them. A 1-3 record against ranked outfits probably equates to a middle-of-the-road bowl bid.
Of course, a breakthrough at Tiger Stadium would change everything. If Freeze’s defense can reasonably contain the Fournette-Guice tandem, Brandon Harris’ not exactly renowned for shouldering the load. Anticipate a brutal bit of trench warfare down South.
