Connor Cook a game-time decision as Michigan State hosts Penn State

Cook a go for MSU vs. PSU?

Will Connor Cook get a chance to lead Michigan State to a Big Ten East championship, or will his shoulder injury keep him from playing against Penn State today?

According to oddsmakers at MyBookie.ag, even though Cook’s status is in question, they have Michigan State as a 10.5-point favorite against Penn State. The over/under total for the contest has been set at 46.5 points. These two meet today at 3:30PM ET on ESPN.

Cook injured his shoulder two weeks ago in a 24-7 win against Maryland. He was expected to play last week against Ohio State, but never saw the field, perhaps indicating the injury is worse than expected. Head coach Mark Dantonio didn’t get into much detail this week about the injury, only stating that he expects Cook to be a “game-time decision.” Cook has thrown for 2,472 yards and 21 touchdowns this season, helping lead MSU to its 10-1 overall record and 6-1 mark in the Big Ten. If Cook can’t go, Tyler O’Connor will fill in. He threw for 133 yards and two touchdowns in last week’s upset win over Ohio State.

No matter who is in at QB, they face a challenge in the Penn State defense. The Nittany Lions are giving up just 18.6 points and 314.1 yards per game this season. They rank seventh nationally in pass defense, allowing only 167.8 yards per game through the air. PSU has needed that defense to make up for a lackluster offense that is averaging just 24.4 points and 337.3 yards per game. Despite that offense, Penn State is still 7-4 on the season and 4-3 in the Big Ten. Both teams come into this game 4-7 against the spread, but MSU has won and covered in its last two meetings with the Nittany Lions.
