Who is the Public Backing?
Following their upset victory over Clemson last week, public bettors are jumping on Syracuse this Saturday. As of this writing, 63% of public bettors are backing the Orange and taking the 16.5 points at the betting window. Miami also struggled with Georgia Tech last week, beating the Yellow Jackets in the closing seconds while failing to cover as a 6.5-point favorite. Thus, perhaps public bettors are also turned off by the ‘Canes at the moment.
Key Betting Trends
The favorite has covered the spread in six of the last seven meetings between these two teams while the Orange is 1-4 against the spread in their last five games versus the Hurricanes. Miami is also 8-2 against the number in its last 10 games overall, is 6-1 at the betting window in its last seven conference games, and has covered in four of its last five games when playing an opponent with a winning record.
OUR PREDICTION: In the wake of Syracuse’s upset win over Clemson last Friday, a lot of people focused on Tigers’ quarterback Kelly Bryant being knocked out of the game. There’s no question that that injury impacted the game. However, don’t overlook the fact that the Orange’s pass rush frustrated the Tigers all night. Miami signal-caller Malik Rosier has struggled the past two weeks, up until the Canes’ final drive when they were able to pull off dramatic wins. If the Orange’s pass rush is up to the challenge again, I could see Miami struggled to move the ball on Saturday.
Syracuse was also able to gash Brent Venables’ defense on the ground for 162 yards and also had success through the air. I don’t see the Orange having as much success offensively against Miami on the road, however, and thus love the under.
