Texas vs. Texas Tech Pick: Will Mahomes & Foreman rack up points in Week 10?

Texas vs. Texas Tech Pick

After playing in somewhat of a defensive struggle last week versus TCU, will Texas Tech get back to its high-scoring ways Saturday against Texas?

According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Red Raiders are 3.5-point home underdogs versus the Longhorns while the over/under currently sits at 81 points. As of this writing the line hasn’t moved off that 3.5-point number but the total has already jumped a full point from 80 to 81.

TEXAS KEY TRENDS: The Longhorns have been competitive this season at home, but when they move outside of Austin they’ve had issues both on the field and at the window. At home Texas is a perfect 4-0 on the year and 4-0 against the spread, but on the road the Longhorns are 0-4 and 1-3 against the number. Charlie Strong’s team is also just 2-7 against the spread in their last nine road games overall.

TEXAS TECH KEY TRENDS: The Red Raiders have been an outstanding bet in conference play, covering in seven of their last eight games against Big 12 opponents. They’re also 4-1 against the number in their last five home games and have covered in five of their last six games overall. In their last two games, they covered as a 16.5-point home dog in a wild shootout versus Oklahoma and then went on the road last week and beat TCU outright as a 9.5-point dog in overtime.

OUR PREDICTION: Even though Texas Tech’s defense showed vast improvement last week against TCU, the Horned Frogs are a mess at quarterback and don’t have D’Onta Foreman at running back. The Texas back has rushed for 1,105 yards and 10 touchdowns on the year and led the Longhorns to an upset victory against Baylor last Saturday in Austin. He’s a load to bring down and the Red Raiders could have issues with him all afternoon. The same case can be made for Tech quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who only threw for 206 yards last week in Fort Worth but may have felt the affects of attempting 88 passes while throwing for 734 yards the prior Saturday against Oklahoma. Mahomes should be fine, and he will take advantage of a pours Texas defense, even if Tech attempts to be more balanced again offensively like they were last week vs. TCU.
