West Virginia is seeking its first 5-0 start since 2012. In that season, the Mountaineers finished 7-6, suffering their first loss of the season to, ironically, Texas Tech in their fifth game. Despite being 4-0 on the year, however, West Virginia has failed to cover the spread in each of its last three games, losing at the betting window as a 20-point home favorite (Youngstown State), as a 7.5-point road favorite (BYU), and as a 3-point home favorite (Kansas State).

The Red Raiders enter play having lost 12 of their last 13 games against AP ranked opponents, including nine in a row. Their last victory over a ranked team came back in 2013 when they defeated then-ranked No. 16 Arizona State. After losing to Kansas State two weeks ago, Texas Tech is now 3-2 on the year but 4-1 against the spread, covering in each of its last four games.

OUR PICK: The Red Raiders are averaging 55.2 points per game, which is the second-most in the FBS behind Louisville (58.0 PPG). The Red Raiders have scored the fifth-most points through five games in the last 15 seasons and have reached 600 yards of total offense in four games this season, which is most in the FBS. Patrick Mahomes also has the third-best QBR in FBS this season and is the only quarterback to throw for 400-plus yards at least four times. His 27 touchdowns rank second behind only Louisville’s Lamar Jackson (28). There’s no reason to bet the under in this one.
