Bet Tonight’s NFL Preseason Games

The Falcons beat the Browns 24-13 last Thursday in Cleveland to improve to 2-0 in preseason action. Devonta Freeman ran for a 19-yard touchdown in the first quarter but Atlanta’s starters fell behind 13-7 before the team’s backups rallied in the second half for the victory. Third-stringer Brandon Wilds also ran for a 32-yard touchdown early in the third quarter.

As for the Dolphins, they were blown out 41-14 in Dallas to drop to 1-1 in preseason play. Starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill completed 12-of-20 passes for 162 yards with two touchdowns and no picks, while Isaiah Pead rushed four times for 48 yards to finish as Miami’s leading rushing for the second straight game.

OUR PICK: The third preseason game is always viewed as the dress rehearsal for NFL teams, with the starters usually playing the entire first half in preparation for the season to start. While the Falcons might be 2-0 this preseason, it has been their backups that have led the way in both victories. Their starters have not looked sharp, particularly quarterback Matt Ryan. A year ago these two teams met in the preseason and Miami’s dominant defensive line abused Atlanta’s O-line while sacking Ryan four times in the process. The Falcons no longer have to deal with Olivier Vernon, who signed with the Giants in the offseason, Ndamukong Suh, Cameron Wake and now Mario Williams are still forces that Atlanta will contend with. The Dolphins are a good bet to cover tonight.
