Gabbert to light up Browns?
The focus of the NFL world may be on who is under center for the Cleveland Browns, but the San Francisco 49ers seem to have a spark under their relatively new QB, Blaine Gabbert.
According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, the Browns are favored at home for today’s game, as they are getting odds of -2 points against the 49ers. The over/under total for the game has been set at 41 points. These two meet today at 1PM ET on FOX.
A No. 10 overall pick in 2011, Gabbert’s career seemed to fizzle quickly as he spent just three season with Jacksonville before coming to San Fran to be a backup. However, due to poor play and an injury to Colin Kaepernick, Gabbert has found himself as the starting QB the last four games for San Francisco (4-8, 6-6 ATS), and the team has gone 2-2 in those games, looking much more competitive. Gabbert has thrown for 963 yards and five touchdowns in the four games while rushing for 140 yards and a score. Last week, Gabbert threw for 196 yards and a score while rushing for 75 yards and a TD to lead the 49ers past the Bears, 26-20, in OT.
Today Gabbert takes on the Cleveland Browns (2-10, 4-8 ATS), who have really struggled on defense. The Browns rank 31st in the NFL in defensive scoring (28.9 ppg) and 29th in total defense (398.8 ypg). For opposing QBs, the Browns have allowed 25 touchdowns passes and three rushing touchdowns while forcing just eight interceptions. Oddsmakers expect some good things from Gabbert today as well, as his over/under for passing yards is set at 216.5. The Browns have allowed at least 230 passing yards and multiple touchdown passes in five straight games. Gabbert has thrown for at least 260 yards in two of his four starts this year.
