Public Betting Trends
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetNow.eu, the Ravens are 2.5-point favorites to beat the Ravens. The total, meanwhile, sits at 44 points. As of this writing, 54% of the public betting tickets are on the Panthers to cover the point spread.
Baltimore Ravens
Joe Flacco completed 23-of-39 passes for 279 yards and two touchdowns in the Ravens’ 24-23, Week 7 loss to the Saints. A standard day at Flacco’s 2018 office. Flacco has not surpassed two scores since Week 1. Today’s touchdowns went to Mark Andrews and John Brown. Flacco lost another potential score when Lamar Jackson cashed in a gadget look. Flacco continues to seem thrilled every time he is split out wide for Jackson to run a play. The Ravens are headed to Charlotte for Week 8.
Carolina Panthers
Cam Newton completed 25-of-39 passes for 269 yards and two touchdowns and rushed seven times for 49 yards in the Panthers’ Week 7 upset win over Philadelphia. Newton shook off a dreadful first half to complete 21-of-30 passes for 245 yards and two touchdowns in the final two quarters, finding Devin Funchess for an 18-yard score and Greg Olsen for the game-winner at the goal line as Carolina overcame a 17-0 deficit for the 21-17 victory. Newton’s second-half performance was truly heroic, particularly a fourth-down completion to Torrey Smith for 35 yards. Newton gets a tougher Week 8 matchup against Baltimore, but he has been a high-floor, high-ceiling fantasy quarterback all year regardless of opponents.
NFL Betting Trends
Baltimore
The Ravens are 5-0 against the spread in their last five games coming off a loss and are 5-2-1 against the number in their last eight road games.
Carolina
The Panthers are 6-2 against the spread in their last eight home games and are 4-1 ATS in their last five games versus a team with a winning record.
Prediction
The Panthers have won eight straight home games but I see them stumbling on Sunday. When adversity strikes, Newton has a tendency to get frustrated and start making mistakes. The Eagles had him and Carolina’s offense down for nearly three full quarters before Newton led the comeback. The Ravens have a better defense, they’re ticked off after allowing Drew Brees and the Saints to come back in the fourth quarter last week, and Justin Tucker isn’t missing again if the game comes down to him. I like the Ravens.
