Bears vs. Chargers Odds
The ninth week of the NFL season closes tonight when the San Diego Chargers host the Chicago Bears at 8:30PM ET on ESPN.
According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, San Diego is the favorite at home, as the Chargers are getting odds of -4.5 points against the Bears. The over/under total for the contest has been set at 49 points. Chicago has won and covered the spread in five of its last six against the Chargers, dating back to 1993.
San Diego is 2-6 on the season, 3-5 against the spread and 4-4 with the over/under total. The Chargers are coming off a 29-26 loss at Baltimore last week for their fourth straight loss. San Diego is averaging 23.9 points per game this season, but the Chargers have the top passing attack in the NFL, averaging 336.9 yards per game through the air. Defensively, San Diego is allowing 28.4 points and 362.9 yards per game. Philip Rivers has thrown for 2,753 yards and 18 touchdowns to lead the offense while Keenan Allen caught 67 passes for 725 yards and four touchdowns prior to suffering a season-ending kidney injury last week. The San Diego defense is led by Jeremiah Attaochu, who has 23 tackles with four sacks.
Chicago is 2-5 on the season, 3-4 against the spread and 4-3 with the under. The Bears are coming off a 23-20 home loss to the Vikings last week for their second straight defeat. Chicago is posting just 20 points and 333 yards per game on offense while the defense is giving up 28.9 points and 342.3 yards per game. The Bears do rank third in the NFL in passing defense, allowing just 214.3 yards per game through the air. Matt Forte has been the leader on offense, but he is out this week with an injury, which puts Jeremy Langford in the starting lineup. Langford has just 80 rushing yards this season. Jay Cutler has thrown for 1,442 yards and eight TDs this year while Pernell McPhee has 33 tackles with five sacks.
