NFC Title Game Prop Predictions: Who will Score First Touchdown? 1/22/17

NFC Title First Player to Score Pick

Who will score the first touchdown in the NFC Championship Game today at 3:05PM ET? Let’s take a look at the odds first.

According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the player with the best odds to score the first touchdown in today’s NFC title game is Atlanta receiver Julio Jones at +400. Falcons running back Devonta Freeman has the next-best odds at +450, while his backfield mate Tevin Coleman is +475 to score the first touchdown today and Packers running back Ty Montgomery is also +475.

Packers tight end Richard Rodgers is also +750, while Green Bay fullback Aaron Ripkowski and Atlanta tight end Austin Hooper are +950.

Some of the long shots to score the first touchdown in today’s NFC Championship Game are Aaron Rodgers +1600, Christine Michael at +1400, and Matt Ryan at +2000. The field also has odds of +400 while “No TD Score in Game” has +12000 odds.

OUR PREDICTION: Adams, Jones and Jordy Nelson are all banged up and will be less than 100-percent at kickoff, so let’s eliminate them since they’re risks. The two quarterbacks could get in on sneaks, although Ryan hasn’t scored a rushing touchdown all season so he’s not a good bet either. Atlanta doesn’t use its tight ends much, so Hooper can be crossed off, and Cook will see a lot of excellent rookie safety Keanu Neal in coverage, so let’s eliminate him as well.

The best values on the board are the three top backs: Freeman, Coleman and Montgomery. The Falcons have higher odds to score the first TD in the game and are favored, so let’s eliminate Montgomery, who hasn’t been great in goal-line situations anyway. While Coleman is in a true timeshare with Freeman, the latter remains the Falcons’ No. 1 back. Thus, at +450 odds, Freeman is the best bet on the board to score the first touchdown today.
