Texans vs. Patriots Odds
Saturday’s NFL action closes with the most lopsided game according to the oddsmakers when the New England Patriots host the Houston Texans at 8:15PM ET.
According to the oddsmakers at BetDSI, the Patriots are the heavy favorite today, as they are getting odds of -15 points against the Texans. The over/under total for the contest is listed at 44.5 points. The Texans currently have a money line of +900 to win outright. The spread for this game actually opened at 16 points and has slowly made its way down to 15 points. Despite the lofty spread, the Patriots are still getting 73 percent of the public wagers for this game. These two met early in the 2016 season, with the Patriots getting a 27-0 win over the Texans on Sept. 22 with Jacoby Brissett as their starting QB.
Brissett was covering for a suspended Tom Brady in that first meeting, but Brady is alive and well for this game. He led New England to a 14-2 record, an AFC East title and the top seed in the playoffs. The Patriots largely dominated this season, going 13-3 against the spread despite some lofty spreads all year. New England averaged 27.6 points per game on offense this year as Brady threw for 3,554 yards with 28 touchdowns and only two touchdowns after being suspended for the first four games. He also did his damage without Rob Gronkowski for a good portion of the season to a back injury. Gronk won’t be available for the playoffs, but Brady has a stronger run game this year than he has had in the past. LeGarrette Blount had a career-high 1,161 rushing yards with 18 touchdowns this season. The Pats also have a good defense, allowing just 15.4 points and 326.4 yards per game. They recorded 32 sacks and forced 23 turnovers.

Houston picked up a 27-14 win over the Raiders, who were playing a third-string QB, last week to advance to this game. The Texans have actually won four of their last five to get to 10-7, but they are just 7-9-1 against the spread. Houston has had to rely on its defense all season. The unit allows just 20.1 points and 295.5 total yards per game, including only 197 passing yards per contest. During the season, Houston had 31 sacks and forced 19 turnovers and did it without J.J. Watt. The Houston defense had to be strong, as the Houston offense was pitiful. The Texans averaged just 18 points and 313.3 yards per game this year. Brock Osweiler has been a disappointment, throwing for just 2,957 yards with 15 touchdowns and 16 interceptions during the regular season. Even in last week’s win, Osweiler had just 168 passing yards. In his first meeting with New England, Osweiler was just 24 of 41 passing for 196 yards with an interception. Lamar Miller ran for 1,073 yards and five scores during the season, but had only 73 yards on 31 carries in last week’s win.
