NFL Draft 4/28/16 Odds & Predictions: Will Joey Bosa be a Top 5 Pick?

Joey Bosa NFL Draft Prediction

Will Ohio State defensive end Joey Bosa be a top 5 selection tonight when the first-round of the 2016 NFL Draft kicks off at 8:00PM ET?

According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the over/under on what pick Bosa will be selected at is sitting at 5 (-120 odds for both the over and the under). That means that if bettors believe Bosa will be selected picks 1-5, they’ll choose the “under.” If they believe Bosa will be taken after pick No. 5, then bettors will take the “over.”

Bosa is considered the top pass-rusher in this year’s draft. At 6-foot-5 and 269 pounds, Bosa has drawn comparisons to Green Bay outside linebacker Clay Matthews. The only question about the former Buckeye is whether or not he’s a defensive end in a 4-3 or an outside linebacker in a 3-4. (It’s likely Bosa could be an edge rusher in a 34 front, but it’s unlikely he’ll hold up on passing downs if asked to drop back into coverage often.)

OUR PREDICTION: Bosa’s draft stock took a hit a few weeks ago when both the Rams and Eagles traded into the top 5. The reason being is that both teams are expected to take quarterbacks with the top two selections, meaning Bosa won’t come off the board until pick No. 3. While the Chargers (No. 3), Cowboys (No. 4) and Jaguars (No. 5) could all use Bosa, Florida State cornerback Jalen Ramsey, Ole Miss left tackle Laremy Tunsil, and even Bosa’s former OSU teammate Ezekiel Elliott are all possibilities for the top 5 as well.

Once viewed as perhaps the best prospect in this year’s draft, Bosa could slip like USC defensive end Leonard Williams did a year ago when he was considered a top 5 pick, then slipped to No. 6 to the Jets. In fact, that’s where I like Bosa: No. 6 to the Ravens. Thus, take the “over 5” on this Bosa prop bet.
