Jets vs. Buccaneers Pick
Can the New York Jets take advantage of a short-handed Tampa Bay Buccaneers team and cover as a road favorite when these two meet at 1PM ET?
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, New York is favored on the road, as the Jets are getting odds of -2.5 points against the Bucs. The over/under total for the contest has been set at 43.5 points. New York has won eight straight meetings with the Bucs and the Jets have covered the spread in all eight wins, three of which were in Tampa. The public betting in this one has the Jets getting 66 percent of the wagers on the road. Today’s game takes place at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida and will air live on CBS.
Tampa doesn’t have a lot to be positive about right now. After losing five straight games, including a 30-10 loss at New Orleans last week, Tampa is now 2-6 on the season and just 1-6-1 ATS. The Bucs are averaging just 19.8 points and 366.6 yards per game this season, but the offense will be very short-handed today. Jameis Winston is out indefinitely due to a shoulder injury while receiver Mike Evans is suspended for this game due to a blindside hit he committed last week. Winston has thrown for 1,920 yards and 10 touchdowns this season while Evans has 40 catches for 532 yards and four scores. Ryan Fitzpatrick gets the start at QB for the Bucs today. He has thrown for 358 yards and four touchdowns this year with 2 INT. Defensively, Tampa is giving up 24.8 points and 395.3 yards per game, including 278.6 passing yards per game.
The Jets are coming off a nice 34-21 win over the Bills last week to snap a three-game losing streak. New York is now 4-5 on the season and 6-2-1 against the spread. However, the Jets are just 1-2-1 ATS on the road. New York is allowing 23 points and 367.3 yards per game on defense this season. Demario Davis is leading the unit with 75 tackles and 3.5 sacks. Offensively, New York is averaging 21.2 points and 330.1 yards per game. Josh McCown has thrown for 1,980 yards and 13 touchdowns this year, but has seven interceptions and has been sacked 26 times. Bilal Powell is the leading rusher with 390 yards while Robby Anderson has 31 receptions for 483 yards and four touchdowns.
The Jets have already been dominating this series and now they face a Tampa Bay team without its top two players on offense. Even with Winston and Evans, the Bucs weren’t moving the ball consistently. Without them, I see things being real difficult. New York can stack the box to stop Doug Martin and force Fitzpatrick to have to beat them. The Bucs just don’t have the team to make this happen today and the Jets know a win today can really spark a potential playoff push.
