Lions vs. Steelers Pick
Can the Pittsburgh Steelers open up preseason play with a win when they host the Detroit Lions at 7PM ET tonight?
According to the oddsmakers at BetDSI, the Steelers are favored at home in tonight’s contest, as they are getting odds of -3 points against the Lions. The over/under total for the contest has been set at 35 points.
The Lions begin their lives without Calvin Johnson on the offensive side of the field. While he didn’t play much in preseason football, it will still be interesting to see how the Lions plan to look on offense without his services. The team added Marvin Jones and Anquan Boldin, so they could look to spread the ball out more. The Lions also are hoping to establish a strong run game behind a younger offensive line.
Pittsburgh dealt with many injuries last season and still had a successful year. Now, all healed up, the Steelers have high hopes for 2016 and that begins tonight in the preseason opener. Pittsburgh focused heavily on defense in the NFL Draft, as they hope to return to being the Steel Curtain of old to complement their explosive offense.

Don’t look for the Steelers to play their stars much in this game. They know what they have on offense. However, the Lions have a lot of new pieces to work in. It wouldn’t surprise me to see some of their first string play well into the first half, including the starting O-line. Despite a lack of success in the regular season, the Lions have been typically strong in the preseason, going 3-1 the last three years. The Steelers are just 2-7 in their last two years of preseason play.
