The Lions picked up a 30-17 win at Pittsburgh in their preseason opener last week. The Lions had a lot of success on offense, throwing for 284 yards while rushing for 95. They also picked up a special teams touchdown from a rookie kick returner. The Detroit defense held Pittsburgh to just 102 passing yards and 85 rushing yards on 20 carries. The main concern for Detroit right now is the offensive line, which could only produce 3.5 yards per carry and allowed four QB hits. The starting line should see more time tonight in hopes to spark improvement.
The Bengals lost their preseason opener at home, 17-16, to the Vikings. Like the Lions, the Bengals struggled to establish a steady run game in the loss, posting 90 yards on 28 carries (3.2 ypc). The Cincinnati defense was physical, as usual, holding the Vikings to just 56 rushing yards on 25 carries. The line also gave up two sacks and six QB hits. Turnovers were a slight issue as well, as the Bengals threw a pair of interceptions.

The preseason is the Lions’ time. They are now 10-3 in their last 13 preseason games. Now they return home to face the Bengals, who probably don’t care too much about tonight’s result. The Lions are likely to play their starters longer than Cincinnati as well. They have a lot of young pieces to work in on both sides of the ball. Go with Detroit at home tonight.
