NFL Week 1 Predictions: Los Angeles Rams vs. San Francisco 49ers 9/12/16

Rams vs. 49ers Prediction

Will tonight be a defensive struggle in Santa Clara when the 49ers host the Rams at 10:20PM ET on Monday Night Football?

According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the 49ers are 2.5-point home underdogs versus the Rams while the over/under currently sits at 42 points. The Niners opened as 2-point dogs before the number was bet up a half-point and the total dropped from 46 all the way down to 42.

The Rams have already ruled out backup receiver Pharoh Cooper for the game, as well as fellow rookie No. 1 overall pick Jared Goff. Right tackle Rob Havenstein is also listed as questionable for Week 1 due to a foot injury and safety Lamarcus Joyner threatened to walk out on the team because of lack of playing time. All-in-all, it was an eventual offseason for the Rams as they moved back to Los Angeles.

As for the Niners, the biggest news is the health of running back Carlos Hyde, who was not on the Week 1 injury report after dealing with a concussion in preseason. Hyde is crucial to the team’s success because he’s one of the only playmakers at the skill positions that Chip Kelly has at his disposal.

OUR PICK: Don’t overthink this one – the best play on the board tonight is the under. The under has cashed in four of the last five meetings overall between these two teams and is 4-1 in the last five meetings in San Francisco (or Santa Clara). The under is also 18-5 in the Niners’ last 23 home games, is 12-5 in their last 17 games versus conference opponents, and is 8-2 in their last 10 divisional games as well. The under has cashed in all four of the Rams’ last four divisional games, is 6-1 in their last seven games overall, and is 38-17-1 in their last 56 road games. Both offenses figure to be inept in all season.
