Updated NFL Week 1 Betting Odds Report
The NFL’s Week 1 schedule began in anything but earnest Thursday night, as the defending Super Bowl champion Broncos nipped the Panthers 21-20. This afternoon, though, brings a veritable buffet of action.
What team is the biggest favorite in Week 1?
Oddsmakers aren’t wavering in their love for the Seahawks. Online sports book Bovada.lv lists the NFC West stalwarts as 10.5-point favorites in their season opener vs. Miami. With Thomas Rawls still bothered by ankle issues, quarterback Russell Wilson could find himself doing the bulk of the heavy lifting in the Pacific Northwest. Then again, perhaps Christine Michael uses his third career start as a prime opportunity to heighten his name recognition around the league.
What’s the smallest point spread in Week 1?
Tony Romo’s absence diminishes the general luster of the Cowboys’ tussle with the Giants. Yet handicappers still anticipate an ultra-tight NFC East bout in the Lone Star State. With rookie Dak Prescott at the helm, Dallas is considered a 1-point favorite. There’s obviously a lot of pressure on fellow first-year player Ezekiel Elliott to post a huge performance on the ground. Given that the Cowboys averaged 4.9 yards per carry in two tilts vs. the G-Men last year, that seems fair.
What is the largest total in Week 1?
If you’re in the mood for a shootout, look no further than the Big Easy. The New Orleans-Oakland over/under is 52, with both teams expected to consistently move the ball downfield in Baton Rouge. Most people know what to expect out of Drew Brees & Co. by now, but Jack Del Rio’s crew represents an intriguing sleeper this fall. If Derek Carr, Latavius Murray and Amari Cooper can run roughshod over a suspect Saints secondary, it’ll be a promising start to a potentially memorable campaign.

What is the smallest total for Week 1?
Offensively challenged Cleveland and Philadelphia probably won’t generate much in the way of fireworks in the City Brotherly Love. Nonetheless, even more futility could stem from the Vikings-Titans clash. The over/under in Nashville: 40. Minnesota’s starting signal-caller, journeyman Shaun Hill, certainly factors into such a paltry figure. Tennessee also needs to prove that it’s ready to move beyond a 3-13 campaign and take the next step under Mike Mularkey.
What contest has seen the biggest line movement?
After opening as a pick’em, New England-Arizona has shifted dramatically in favor of the Cardinals. The reigning NFC West champs are now regarded as 7-point favorites in primetime. We’ve long known about Tom Brady’s suspension, but Friday’s announcement concerning Rob Gronkowski sent bettors scurrying toward the Arizona side. The Pats’ Pro Bowl tight end, compromised by a hamstring ailment, didn’t even travel to the desert. There’s also a fair amount of fluctuation pertaining to the Browns-Eagles affair, as the public becomes more and more leery of Carson Wentz’s ability to pull out a victory in his NFL debut.
