Dolphins vs. Chargers Prediction
The San Diego Chargers hope to tear up the Miami Dolphins when they visit town today at 4:05PM ET.
According to the oddsmakers at BetDSI, the Chargers are favored at home today, as San Diego is getting odds of -4.5 points against the Dolphins. The over/under total for the contest is listed at 48 points. The home team has won and covered the spread in six straight meetings between these two teams. They have also hit the under in 10 straight encounters.
After a poor start to the season, Miami has won three straight to get to 4-4 on the season. They are also 4-4 against the spread, covering the spread in the three straight victories. Miami is only averaging 21.6 points and 356.8 yards per game on offense, while the defense is giving up 22.8 points and 379 yards per contest. Miami’s surge in wins has been thanks to Jay Ajayi, who now has 646 yards and six touchdowns on the season. He has rushed for 529 yards and four touchdowns over the last three games. Ryan Tannehill has thrown for 1,877 yards and eight touchdowns this season, but also has seven interceptions. He could be without his top target today as Jarvis Landry is questionable with a shoulder injury.
San Diego is now 4-5 on the season following a 43-35 win over the Titans at home. The Chargers have won three of their last four games and have covered in four of their last five. The Chargers have an offense that has moved the ball on most, averaging 29.8 points and 391.1 yards per game, including 284.4 passing yards per contest. Philip Rivers has thrown for 2,560 yards and 17 touchdowns this season. He could be without leading receiver Travis Benjamin, who has 39 catches this season. Benjamin is listed as doubtful with a knee injury. Defensively, San Diego is giving up 378.6 yards and 27.4 points per game. They actually have one of the top rushing defenses, allowing only 85.3 yards per game, but struggle with the pass (293.2 ypg). Defensive end Joey Bosa (ankle) is questionable for the game while safety Jahleel Addae (collarbone) is doubtful to play.

Both teams are coming in hot, but the matchup seems worse for Miami. While Ajayi has been strong, San Diego should be up to the challenge of stopping him and forcing Tannehill to be them, which I don’t think he can. Rivers will be able to lead this offense against the Miami defense and Melvin Gordon has been an effective running back when they can’t throw. With the Chargers at home, trust in them to cover.
