NFL Week 13 SB Power Rankings
If there were a NFL power rankings based on Super Bowl odds, what would the list look like? We’ve compiled what essentially is oddsmakers’ NFL Power Rankings for Week 13.
1. New England Patriots (12/5)
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Patriots have the best odds of any team to win the Super Bowl through 12 weeks of the season. At 9-2, the Pats have a commanding lead in the AFC East and are currently tied for the top seed in the AFC with the Pittsburgh Steelers. They have an opportunity to widen the gap between themselves and the second-place Bills with a victory this Sunday in Buffalo. New England opened as a 9-point road favorite but are now -8 for Sunday’s 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff.
2. Philadelphia Eagles (18/5)
The Eagles have the best record in the NFL at 10-1 but still find themselves staring up at the defending Super Bowl champion Patriots when it comes to the current odds. At +160, Philadelphia has the best point differential in the league. On Sunday night they’ll travel to one of the toughest environments in the NFL, Seattle, to take on the Seahawks at 8:30 p.m. ET. The Eagles are now 5-point road favorites after opening as a 6-point favorite.
3. Pittsburgh Steelers (6/1)
As previously mentioned, the Steelers are currently tied atop the AFC standings with the Patriots for the No. 1 seed in the conference. They have a tendency to play down to their opponents, as they did on Sunday night when Brett Hundley nearly lead the Packers to an upset victory was a 14-point underdog. Pittsburgh is back on primetime this week, as the Steelers travel to Cincinnati to take on division rivals the Bengals at 8:30 p.m. ET. Pittsburgh is currently a 6-point favorite and a massive public team for Week 13.
4. Minnesota Vikings (10/1)
The Vikings have a stout defense, have proven that they can still run the ball despite losing running back Dalvin Cook, and employ a quarterback having his best season as a pro. That said, when that quarterback is Case Keenum, people are slow to jump on your bandwagon. Minnesota has another chance to prove doubters wrong on Sunday when it travels to Atlanta to take on the suddenly hot Falcons at 1:00 p.m. ET. The Vikings are a 3-point road underdog for that game.
5. Atlanta Falcons (16/1)
Speaking of the Falcons, they’ve now won three in a row and currently hold onto the sixth seed in the NFC playoff picture. They finally have their offense rolling under new play-caller Steve Sarkisian and look to be a thorn in any opponents’ side come the playoffs. That said, they have a treacherous schedule the rest of the way, with games against the Vikings, Panthers and two against the division-leading Saints. If they do make the playoffs, the Falcons will have earned it.
6. Los Angles Rams (16/1)
One of the best stories in the NFL this year, the Rams overcome adversity on Sunday by beating the Saints following their loss to the Vikings the Sunday prior. Despite not having leading receiver Robert Woods, Jared Goff lit up a banged-up Saints secondary in a 26-20 victory. Los Angeles’ defense is rounding into a shape as well under new DC Wade Phillips. From Todd Gurley and Aaron Donald, this team has all the elements to make a serious playoff run. We’ll see if they can hold off the Seahawks for the NFC West crown.
7. New Orleans Saints (16/1)
After nearly stumbling against the Redskins in the previous week, the Saints did fall this past Sunday in Los Angeles. New Orleans couldn’t get its new-look running game going and Drew Brees failed to lead the Saints back from another fourth-quarter deficit. The defense didn’t play as well without cornerback Marshon Lattimore and they’ll need him back soon if the Saints are going to hold onto their one-game lead in the NFC South. They’re 4-point home favorites on Sunday against the visiting 8-3 Panthers.
7. Seattle Seahawks (30/1)
The Seahawks are still on the outside looking in for a playoff spot but they remain right behind the Falcons for the sixth spot after beating the 49ers on Sunday. It’s virtually Russell Wilson versus every opponent but fortunately for the Seahawks, he’s all they’ve needed most games. They have a cakewalk schedule but injuries could eventually derail Seattle’s season. They host the Eagles as a rare home underdog this Sunday night.
8, 9 & 10. Jacksonville Jaguars, Kansas City Chiefs & Los Angeles Chargers (40/1)
Who would have thought at the end of October that oddsmakers would list the Chiefs and Chargers with the same odds to win the Super Bowl after 12 weeks? The Chiefs’ lead in the AFC West is down to a single game and they have major issues on both sides of the ball. Some are questioning whether or not Andy Reid should make a change at quarterback and go with rookie Patrick Mahomes after Alex Smith once again struggled in a 16-10 home loss to the Bills. Reid says he’s sticking with Smith, but things could change if the veteran continues to struggle.
Meanwhile, the Chargers are currently playing their best football and have a better point differential (+47) than the Chiefs (+36). They have a nasty pass rush, a veteran quarterback and a set of skill position players in Melvin Gordon and Keenan Allen that’s capable of winning the division. Look out, AFC West.
