NFL Week 14 Picks: Will Petty, Jets struggle to score vs. 49ers? 12/11/16

Jets vs. 49ers Pick

Will Bryce Petty and the Jets struggle to score this weekend when they visit the 49ers at 4:05PM ET?

According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the 49ers are a 2.5-point home favorite versus the Jets while the total currently sits at 44 points. San Francisco opened as a 1-point favorite before the line moved to 2.5, while the total opened at 45 before dropping a full point to 44.

The Jets enter Sunday’s game losers of fourth straight. They’re coming off an embarrassing performance on Monday night in which they were blown out 41-10 by the Colts on their home field. That loss dropped their record to 3-9 on the year and after failing to cover as a 1-point favorite, their ATS record is now 4-8 in 2016. The over has gone 6-5-1 in their 12 games this season as well.

While the Jets’ four-game losing streak seems bad, they’ve got nothing on the Niners, who have lost 11 in a row since beating the Rams in Week 1. Their latest setback came in snowy conditions in Chicago, losing 26-6 to the Bears in a pick’em game. On top of their 1-11 record, the Niners are also just 3-9 against the spread this season.

OUR PREDICTION: The 49ers rank 32nd in total yards allowed this season, 32nd in rushing yards allowed and have surrendered the most points on a per-game basis than any team in the league at 30.8. That said, I don’t trust Petty to move the Jets offense enough to contribute to the score going over the betting total. Plus, I expect after they were blown out on Monday that the Jets will play better defensively this weekend. The under is 4-0 in the last four meetings between these two teams and 11-2 in the 49ers’ last 13 games after accumulating less than 250 total yards in their previous contest.
