NFL Week 14 SB Power Rankings
As we do every Tuesday, here is our version of NFL power rankings, based solely on current Super Bowl odds. Which teams comprise of the current top 10?
1. New England Patriots
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Patriots are the current favorites to win the Super Bowl at 11/5. They’re also the current favorites to win the AFC at 21/10. On Sunday the Patriots improved to 10-2 with a 23-3 victory over the Bills in Buffalo. They’re now 8-4 against the spread including 4-1 ATS on the road. They’re currently an 11-point road favorite at the Dolphins for Week 14.
2. Pittsburgh Steelers
As of this writing, the Steelers are currently losing to the Bengals on Monday Night Football, so Pittsburgh’s odds will certainly change with a loss. As of this writing, however, the Steelers have the next-best odds to win the Super Bowl at 5/1. Even at 9-3, the Steelers are in good shape to win the AFC North and receive at least one home game in the playoffs. Pittsburgh will host division rival Baltimore on Sunday night in Week 14. The Steelers are a 7-point favorite.
3. Philadelphia Eagles
Despite their loss to the Seahawks on Sunday night, the Eagles still have the best odds (6/1) of any team in the NFC to win the Super Bowl. Philadelphia is 10-2 and 9-3 against the spread this season but has a tough matchup on Sunday against a Rams team that is now 9-3 following a win over the Cardinals. If the Eagles lose to the Rams and the Vikings beat the Panthers then Philly will slide all the way down to the No. 3 spot in the NFC. The Eagles are still in great shape to win their division but that would be quite the fall after leading the conference virtually all season.
4. Minnesota Vikings
Even people were still questioning Case Keenum and the Vikings before Sunday, they aren’t now. That’s because Minnesota held a red-hot Atlanta offense to just three field goals in a hard-fought 14-9 victory. Keenum continues to play sound football, allowing his defense to do the heavy lifting and avoiding key mistakes. With a championship caliber defense, the Vikings are now 8/1 to win the Super Bowl. They’re a 3-point road favorite at the Panthers in Week 14.
5. New Orleans Saints
One week after losing on the road to the Rams, the Saints returned home in Week 13 and put a whopping on their NFC South rivals, the Panthers. New Orleans, with its two-headed monster at running back and future Hall of Famer at quarterback, is now 12/1 to win the Super Bowl. The Saints can widen their lead in the division with a win on Thursday night against bitter rival Atlanta. The Saints are a 1.5-point road favorite to beat the Falcons.
6. Los Angeles Rams
One of the best stories in the NFL has been the Rams, who just secured their first winning season in over a decade. After beating the Cardinals in Week 13, Los Angeles is now 15/1 to win the Super Bowl, which is incredible considering the team opened as a 150/1 long shot. Thanks to Todd Gurley, Sean McVay, Jared Goff and Wade Phillips’ nasty defense, the Rams are legitimate threats in the NFC. It goes to show you how bad Jeff Fisher was as a head coach that McVay has been able to turn things around so quickly.
7. Seattle Seahawks
The Seahawks are now the sixth team in the NFC again thanks to the Falcons’ loss to the Vikings and Seattle’s own upset of Philly on Sunday night. With MVP candidate Russell Wilson under center, the Seahawks have enough to survive the rest of the season and hang onto their playoff spot. The Falcons have the toughest remaining schedule of any team in the league so as long as Seattle doesn’t suffer any more injuries to its defense, the Seahawks will be in great shape.
8. Atlanta Falcons
The defending NFC champions are in trouble. They didn’t score a touchdown on Sunday versus the Vikings and now have a short turnaround to get ready for the first-place Saints (whom they play twice before the season is over). The Falcons still have to face the Panthers again too and Carolina beat them once already. Now on the outside looking in, the Falcons have some work to do to even make the playoffs. They’re 25/1 to win the Super Bowl.
9 & 10. Jacksonville Jaguars & Los Angeles Chargers
At the start of the season the Jaguars were 100/1 long shots to win the Super Bowl and now they’re 30/1 to bring home the hardware. Three weeks ago, the Chargers were left for dead in the AFC West. But with the Chiefs in full collapse mode, the Chargers now have a legitimate chance to win the AFC West and head to the playoffs. Considering they have a quarterback, a solid running game, a weapon at receiver, a good secondary and two pass-rushers, the Chargers could make some noise if they reach the postseason. They too are 30/1 to win the Super Bowl.
