NFL Week 5 Updated Point Spread Odds & Over/Under Totals 10/9/16

Updated Week 5 NFL Betting Odds Report

Following Thursday night’s fairly humdrum affair between the Cardinals and 49ers, the stage is set for a spirited weekend of NFL action. These are some of the key storylines we’re monitoring.

What team represents the biggest favorite?

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady makes his triumphant return at 1 p.m. ET. Translation: Cleveland hardly stands a chance. Online sports book BetDSI lists the visitors as 10.5-point favorites entering this afternoon’s battle at FirstEnergy Stadium. With his Deflategate ban over, Brady figures to feast on the Browns’ secondary. Expect tight end Rob Gronkowski to see a marked increase in targets, too, after hauling in only one reception during the past two tilts.

What’s the smallest point spread?

The defending AFC North champion Bengals look surprisingly vulnerable through the first month of the campaign. On the flip side, Dallas’ talented young nucleus keeps turning heads. Thus, we’re dissecting an extremely tight matchup in the Lone Star State. At present, Cincinnati is considered a 2-point favorite. Andy Dalton & Co. posted a solid victory in Week 4, unleashing A.J. Green on the Dolphins’ hapless secondary. Coach Marvin Lewis may avoid Dez Bryant here, too, as the star wideout continues to rehab an injured knee.

What is the largest total in Week 5?

Despite the fact that Pro Bowl rusher Latavius Murray won’t play a role in the proceedings, the Raiders-Chargers showdown at 4:25 p.m. ET should feature no shortage of fireworks. Handicappers have set the over/under figure at 50.5 and, frankly, it’s easy to understand why. Oakland just vanquished previously undefeated Baltimore, while San Diego’s scored at least 22 points in each of its first four contests. The host squad’s Derek Carr-Michael Crabtree partnership appears unflappable, so imagine Jack Del Rio’s delight when Amari Cooper finally hits paydirt for the first time in 2016.

What is the smallest total for Week 5?

Minnesota sits atop the NFC North at 4-0. Mike Zimmer’s troops do not, however, score TDs in an abundance. The same certainly goes for Houston, which renders oddsmakers skeptical as to whether the two organizations can even combine for 40 points. Behind a gritty second-half showing from Brock Osweiler, the Texans managed to knock off Tennessee a week ago. Yet the QB’s tendency to commit costly turnovers could prove disastrous in the Twin Cities, where Zimmer has cultivated a voracious defense.

What game has seen the biggest line movement?

Numerous Jets fans feel petrified at the moment, and for good reason. Their signal-caller, Ryan Fitzpatrick, persists in throwing pick after pick. Elite receivers Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker have wrestled with assorted physical maladies since Sept. 11. Then there’s basically the complete absence of a ground attack. In other words, we’re far from shocked that Pittsburgh suddenly typifies a 9-point favorite after initially being projected to prevail by a touchdown. The Steelers also obliterated Kansas City, 43-14, last Sunday evening.
