Redskins vs. Saints Prediction
Will the Washington Redskins be the team to slow down the red-hot New Orleans Saints or will Sean Payton and Co. keep rolling with another win and cover today at 1:00 p.m. ET?
Who Oddsmakers Like: New Orleans. According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Saints are 7.5-point home favorites to beat the Redskins, who also opened as a 7.5-point road underdog. The total, meanwhile, currently sits at 51.5 points after hitting the board at 49.5.
Who the Public Likes: New Orleans. Public bettors aren’t going to fade the hottest team in the league. As of Sunday morning, just under 60% of tickets are on the Saints to cover the spread at home.
Who the Trends Like: Washington and the over. The Redskins are a perfect 5-0 against the spread in their last five games against the Saints, while the underdog has covered in five of the last six meetings between these two teams. The over has also hit in all four of the last four meetings between these two teams.
Who We Like: New Orleans. I’m reading a lot about how the Redskins are a “value” play today. Value? They’re playing a team that is rolling right now and have been out-gained in their last four games, including in their big win over the Seahawks in Seattle a couple of weeks ago. That doesn’t a team that screams “value” to me.
The Saints, meanwhile, can now beat you with a balanced attack that is capable of getting a big league and keeping it because of their rushing attack. They also have an opportunistic defense that is generating turnovers and creating tons of pressure on opposing quarterbacks.
The Redskins are just 1-5 against the spread in their last six games, are 1-4 against the number in their last five conference games and are 4-9 against the number in their last 13 games after allowing more than 30 points in their previous contest. The Saints, meanwhile, are 9-1 at the betting window the last 10 times they’ve faced a team with a losing record, are 12-2 against the spread in their last 14 games coming off a win, and are 4-0 against the number in their last four games played in November.
Feel free to play the “value” team. I’ll play the hotter team.
