Seattle Seahawks 2016 NFL Season Win Total Prediction

Seahawks’ Season Win Total Prediction

Will the Seattle Seahawks win at least 11 games in 2015 after falling short in the playoffs last season?

According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Seahawks’ over/under for wins in the upcoming regular season has been set at 10.5 games. Meanwhile, Seattle’s odds to win Super Bowl 51 have been set at 11/1, the team’s odds to win the NFC Conference Championship are +475, and its odds to win the NFC West Division are -110.

A Look Back

The Seahawks finished the regular season with a 10-6 record, which put them three games behind the first-place Cardinals in the NFC West. In the wildcard round, Seattle beat Minnesota 10-9 when Blair Walsh hooked a 27-yard field goal attempt with 22 seconds remaining in the game to put the Hawks in the division round. Unfortunately for Pete Carroll’s squad, that’s where his team’s season ended, as the Seahawks were beaten by the eventual NFC Conference champion Panthers, 31-24.

A Look Ahead

The Seahawks selected Germain Ifedi in the first round of April’s draft and he’s projected to start at right guard this year. Other than Ifedi and the retirement of Marshawn Lynch, Seattle’s offseason was rather quiet (save for the signing of Brandon Browner, who struggled mightily as a Saint last season).

Our Pick

The same core that went to back-to-back Super Bowls two years ago is largely intact. Russell Wilson returns under center and will have leading receiver Doug Baldwin back. There are questions surrounding the running back position with Lynch gone, but Thomas Rawls proved a year ago that he could handle the starting responsibilities when healthy. Rawls is coming back from an ACL injury but could start in Week 1. Christine Michael is also back and the team added Notre Dame running back CJ Prosise in the third round of the draft as well.

It’s the same deal defensively, where Richard Sherman, Bobby Wagner, Kam Chancellor, Earl Thomas, Michael Bennett, KJ Wright and Cliff Avril all return. Thomas is the best safety in the league and Sherman is among the best corners (if not the best). The question is corner spot opposite Sherman, where Jeremy Lane is currently slated to start. If Lane can hold his own, there are no weaknesses on Carroll’s defense.

Ten wins should be the floor for this team and even though bettors will have to deal with the hook, the over 10.5 is still a good play for the Seahawks in 2016 given which players return. They could easily make another Super Bowl run this season.
