Defense to score in SB 50?
The Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers both have playmaking defenses. Will either one of the units find the end zone in Super Bowl 50?
According to oddsmakers at RealBets, Carolina is currently a 5.5-point favorite in Sunday’s game with the Broncos, while the over/under total has been set at 45 points. These two meet on Sunday, Feb. 7 at 6:30PM ET from Levi’s Stadium. The game will air live on CBS.
The Panthers and Broncos have two of the top defenses in all of the NFL this season and touchdowns are something that have been somewhat common between the two. Oddsmakers have listed the odds of a defensive TD in Super Bowl 50 at +140, with the odds of neither defense scoring a TD at -170.
The Panthers seem the more likely of the two to score, as they led the NFL in takeaways this season, totaling 39, while Denver had just 27. The Panthers were also able to score five times on defense this season and they have had one defensive touchdown in each of their two playoff games. The Broncos have also managed five defensive touchdowns during the regular season, however that has not carried over into the postseason, as the unit is yet to score.
One aspect to consider is turnovers by the opposing offense. Carolina has had 19 giveaways this season, which led to one TD by the opposing defense. On the flip side, Denver had 21 giveaways, which was third most in the NFL. That led to three touchdowns for opposing defenses.
