Cowboys’ 2016 Super Bowl odds drop
Quarterback Tony Romo will miss between 6-10 weeks with a back injury and the odds that the Cowboys will win the 2016 Super Bowl have dropped significantly.

ESPN Dallas reports that Romo’s specific injury is a “compression fracture of his L1 vertebrae.” Romo doesn’t need surgery, but the injury will cause him to miss between 6-10 weeks as he rests and rehabs. The Dallas Morning News also reports that the best-case scenario is that Romo would return after the Cowboys’ Week 7 bye.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Cowboys are now 30/1 to win the 2016 Super Bowl. Their odds to win before the news on Romo were 20/1, which was also the number their opened at when the Super Bowl lines were released back in February. Dallas was also 9/1 to win the NFC Conference Championship in 2016, but the team’s odds have dropped to 15/1 following the news on Romo.
The Cowboys will now turn to rookie Dak Prescott, who was selected in the fourth round of April’s draft. He’s had an impressive preseason, totaling seven touchdowns with zero interceptions. He’s also thrown for 454 yards in route to becoming the headliner in the NFL this preseason.
Prescott should start at least the first month of the season but he might wind up playing two full months before Romo is ready to come off the injured list. If Prescott’s preseason carries into the regular season, maybe he’ll force the Cowboys to consider turning the page on the Tony Romo era.
