According to oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.ag, the team with the best odds of landing Cousins is actually the one that can retain him: The Redskins. Washington has 1/4 odds to be the team that Cousins suits up for in Week 1 of the 2017 regular season. The Redskins could either franchise tag him again or lock him up to a long-term deal, either seems like a good possibility.
Which team has the next-best odds of landing Cousins? That would be the quarterback-starved 49ers at 7/1. The Bears, who might move on from Jay Cutler this offseason, have 10/1 odds to land Cousins, while the Browns, Rams and Jets are all 15/1, respectively. Cleveland despertely needs a signal-caller under second-year coach Hue Jackson, while Los Angeles drafted Jared Goff with the No. 1 pick last year but proved he wasn’t ready yet, and New York has a mess at the quarterback position as well.
The smart money is on Cousins returning to Washington but if you’re looking for a value play, the 49ers could get serious now that Shanahan is looking to commit to a quarterback for the long haul. Cousins and Shanahan know each other and given how Cousins is still just 28 years old, he could spark the rebuilding project in San Francisco if the Niners were to acquire him this offseason.
