Seahawks-Vikings line drops 1.5 points

Running back Marshawn Lynch was downgraded to out for Sunday’s Wild Card matchup against the Vikings, causing the point spread to drop a full 1.5 points.

The Seahawks opened as a 4.5-point road favorite versus the Vikings when the playoff odds were released last Sunday night. The line then climbed all the way up to Seattle -5.5 with the anticipation that Lynch would be returning to the Seahawks’ backfield after missing months with an abdominal injury.

But Lynch suffered a setback on Friday and told the team after practice that he felt like he couldn’t play. With Christine Michael once again taking over the main backfield duties for the Seahawks, the line for Sunday’s Wild Card game dropped all the way down to Seattle -4 according to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI.

The drop was fairly drastic given the position that Lynch plays. Usually you’ll see a line move significantly if an injury pertains to a quarterback, but perhaps oddsmakers were forced to move the spread because they received considerable sharp action. There’s no question that Lynch gives Seattle’s odds a boost, but there’s also a case to be made that the offense now revolves around Russell Wilson anyway.
