New York Islanders Fantasy Spin
Semyon Varlamov turned aside 42 of the 43 shots that he faced during Saturday’s 1-0 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights. Varlamov was outstanding in this one, keeping the swarming Knights at bay for almost the entire evening while taking heavy fire. On the downside, some apparent miscommunication between Varlamov and his defensemen led to the only goal of the game. Still, he’s a rock-solid fantasy option when he starts for the Islanders and has permitted only nine goals in his last four starts. He remains in an even timeshare with Thomas Greiss, who is also having a strong season for the Islanders.
Arizona Coyotes Fantasy Spin
Antti Raanta stopped 36 of the 37 shots he faced in Saturday’s 3-1 win against the Washington Capitals. The only blemish came when Carl Hagelin tallied late in the second period, but Raanta was on top of his game all night. After a rocky start to the season, Raanta has been on fire recently, as he has permitted just 12 goals in his last six contests. The injury to Darcy Kuemper could have been a backbreaker for the Coyotes, but Raanta is holding down the fort and keeping his team afloat in Kuemper’s absence. The 30-year-old is absolutely worth picking up in fantasy leagues for as long as Kuemper remains sidelined.
Our Prediction
The under has cashed in five straight meetings between these two teams when the game is played in Arizona and has hit in six of the last eight meetings between these two teams overall. The under is also 41-15-4 in the Islanders’ last 60 games when they’re an underdog, is 37-18-4 in their last 59 road games and is 47-22-3 in their last 72 games playing on one day of rest. On the other side, the under is a perfect 4-0 in the Coyotes’ last four games overall, is 4-1 in their last five home games and is 24-10 in their last 34 games when facing an opponent with a winning record.
