Golden Knights fall in thriller

Las Vegas lost 2-1 in double overtime Sunday night at home in Game 6 against San Jose as the visitors kept its season alive. The Sharks struck first late in the first period, while at the 8:40 mark of the second period the Golden Knights evened the score on a Jonathan Marchessault goal assisted by Shea Theodore and William Karlsson. The score remained at 1-1 through the third period and first overtime until San Jose manufactured the game-winning goal in double overtime. Marc-Andre Fleury registered 27 saves on 29 shots in the defeat.

Hertl wins it in double OT

San Jose prevailed 2-1 in double overtime Sunday night at Las Vegas in Game 6 of the Western Conference quarterfinals to force a Game 7. The Sharks took a 1-0 advantage with nine seconds remaining in the first period on a Logan Couture goal with assists going to Timo Meier and Brent Burns. The Golden Knights tied the score at 1-1 in the second period and it was the last goal either team would score until Tomas Hertl found the back of the net on a slap shot with 8:43 showing on the clock and San Jose shorthanded in the second overtime. Marc-Edouard Vlasic assisted on the game-winning goal. Martin Jones was spectacular in net as he recorded 58 saves on 59 shots in the winning effort.

NHL Betting Trends

Las Vegas

The underdog is 2-5 in the last seven meetings. The over is 6-2 in the last eight meetings.

San Jose

The home team is 5-2 in the last seven meetings. The over is 5-0 in the last five meetings in San Jose.

Prediction:

San Jose has a lengthy history of falling flat in the postseason, whereas the Golden Knights managed to advance to the Stanley Cup Finals in a storybook expansion season. While Jones was out of his mind good in Game 6, he had an underwhelming season as a whole and one game isn’t going to change my mind that he’s a flawed goaltender. Look for the Golden Knights to pepper him with shots again and have a little more success this time. As long as Fleury has a reasonably good game in net for Las Vegas, his squad should find enough offense in front of him to advance.
