Predators fall short at Jets

Nashville lost by a count of 5-3 Friday night at Winnipeg to drop to 37-25-5 on the season. Viktor Arvidsson put the Predators on the board in the first period with his 27th goal of the season, assisted by Filip Forsberg. P.K. Subban made it a 2-0 contest with a power play goal at the 7:48 mark of the second period with assists going to Ryan Johansen and Ryan Ellis. The Jets proceeded to score twice in the last four-plus minutes of the period to even the score at 2-2. In the third period, Winnipeg added two more goals to push its lead to 4-2. Nashville managed to get one goal back courtesy of Mattias Ekholm with one minute remaining. Ellis and Mikael Granlund assisted on the score. The Jets put it away with an empty-net goal at the 32-second mark. Pekka Rinne surrendered three goals on 30 shots in the loss.

Wild win fifth straight

Minnesota won a fifth straight contest Saturday with a 4-2 triumph at Calgary to improve to 32-27-6 on the season. Eric Staal gave the Wild a 1-0 advantage 3:17 in on a goal assisted by Jason Zucker and Jordan Greenway. The Flames scored the lone goal in the second period to even it at 1-1 through 40 minutes. Matt Read provided an unassisted goal, his first of the season, four-plus minutes into the third to put Minnesota back ahead. Ryan Suter gave the visitors a 3-1 lead with 7:53 remaining on a goal assisted by Greenway. After Calgary cut it back to 3-2, an insurance goal from Ryan Donato with 1:42 remaining put it away. Jared Spurgeon and Suter assisted on the score. Devan Dubnyk allowed two goals on 37 shots in the winning effort.

NHL Betting Trends

Nashville

The Predators are 1-4 in their last five road games. Nashville is 1-5 in its last six games versus the Central Division.

Minnesota

The Wild are 8-3 in their last 11 games as an underdog. Minnesota is 2-5 in its last seven games versus the Western Conference.

Prediction:

Minnesota might be hot, but it’s on a back-to-back with travel while the Predators had yesterday off. Despite the recent play of both teams, Nashville is certainly a more talented bunch and should be able to rebound today with Rinne in goal. The Wild, on the other hand, will be turning to backup Alex Stalock and his sub.900 save percentage. The Predators are a strong play tonight in my opinion.
