Detroit won its season opener Thursday night via a 4-2 home victory over the Wild. Ottawa is 0-0-1 as it lost its opener at home via a 5-4 overtime defeat to the Capitals. The Red Wings won three out of four meetings last year with the over-under going 2-2.

In Thursday’s win over the Wild, Henrik Zetterberg scored what turned out to be the game-winner in the third period. Anthony Mantha, Dylan Larkin and Martin Frk also scored a goal for Detroit. Mike Green contributed three assists, while Zetterberg along with Mantha and Frk all had an assist. Tomas Tatar also contributed an assist. Jimmy Howard made 29 saves.

The Senators received two goals from Mark Stone in the OT loss to Washington while Chris Wideman and Derick Brassard each had one goal. Brassard added two assists, while Bobby Ryan also had two assists. Wideman and Dion Phaneuf notched one assist apiece. Craig Anderson stopped 19 of 23 shots.

Bet on Red Wings vs. Senators

The Red Wings surprised many people by winning their opener and showed there is some good young talent in the mix such as Larkin and Mantha. The problem is Detroit also has many veterans who haven’t produced to the level of their contract, leaving the team in flux as it opens a new arena. Ottawa will be looking for a bounceback performance after the difficult OT loss and the Red Wings are the perfect candidate, especially since Detroit won the season series a year ago.
