The Predators took a 3-2 lead in the series thanks to a 3-1 win in Anaheim in Game 5 on Saturday night. These two have traded wins since Nashville won the opener. The Predators are 52-32-13 overall and 30-9-9 at home while the Ducks are 56-28-14 overall and 22-17-9 on the road.
The Ducks held a brief 1-0 lead in Game 5 when Chris Wagner scored in the second period. Minutes later, Colin Wilson scored for Nashville on the power play to even things up. In the third, Pontus Aberg got his first goal of the playoffs to put Nashville up 2-1. Austin Watson would score on an empty net to make it 3-1. The Ducks had the edge in shots and hits once again, but it wasn’t good enough to get the victory. Pekka Rinne had one of his best games in the postseason, stopping 32 shots. John Gibson stopped all 10 shots he faced for Anaheim, but had to leave the game with an injury and he is questionable to play today. Jonathan Bernier stopped just 16 of the 18 shots he faced.
Gibson says he should be ready to go tonight, but I don’t think that will matter. If he is to go, he will probably not be 100 percent and that’s not ideal for a big game on the road. Rinne was on fire in Saturday’s win and should be able to carry that momentum with him to Nashville tonight. The Predators have scored multiple goals in every game in this series. As long as Rinne is one his game, Nashville should win.
