Ottawa Senators vs. Philadelphia Flyers 4/2/16 NHL Picks & Predictions

Senators vs. Flyers Prediction

The surging Flyers have an opportunity to possibly to a two-point lead on the Red Wings in the race for the Eastern Conference’s second wild card spot if they can beat the Senators today and Detroit loses to Toronto.

According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Flyers are -205 money line favorites versus the Senators, who have odds of +165 to pull off the upset. Philadelphia is also -1.5 (+157) to beat Ottawa on the puckline.

Bet Today’s Senators vs. Flyers Game

The Flyers will play three back-to-back series to end their 2015-16 season, starting today with their game versus the Senators. Philadelphia is 11-9-6 in all back-to-back situations, but the key is the Flyers are 6-3-4 in Game 1 of back-to-backs. It’s Game 2 where they’re just 5-6-2.

Steve Mason was simply fantastic for the Flyers in March, going 8-2-2 with a 1.88 goals-against-average and posting a .933 save percentage. He will make his 13th start in his last 14 games, including his eighth in a row but he’s shown no signs of slowing down.

The difference today could be the play of the special teams on both sides. Ottawa ranks 28th on the power play and 29th on the penalty kill and hasn’t scored a power-play goal in 14 straight games. Philadelphia, meanwhile, was 28 for 31 on the penalty kill in March while allowing just three power-play goals (tied for the NHL’s fewest during the month).
